Burton couplers, known in Sweden as "burtonknutar", join tubes and trussing at right angles or in a free swivel, and are among the most common connectors used to build rigs for stage, studio and live event work. The range covers half and full couplers, swivel and locked 90-degree versions, in slimline and standard profiles, with load ratings from around 75 kg up to 750 kg. Brands include Doughty, Global, Kupo and Manfrotto, offered in black or natural metal finish.
These couplers are used to fix lighting bars, scenery, drapes and other equipment to tube-based rigging systems, giving riggers a quick way to build secure, adjustable structures on set or on tour. Swivel versions allow angled connections where a fixed 90-degree joint is not suitable, while locked couplers hold a right angle firmly. Selection depends on required load capacity, tube diameter and whether a fixed or pivoting joint is needed for the specific rig.
